The Housewife Journal ~October 2024
~ October ~
I realize that it is November at the moment, but I already wrote up this whole post (with the exception of a few bits and pieces) and this October was a memorable month which you’ll see below. I also wanted to also have a November journal for Thanksgiving and the full fall weather season, so I just decided to go ahead and post! 😊
It's finally October! One of my favorite months! In the south, the weather is finally starting to get cooler, and the leaves are oh so slowly starting to change! Not to mention I got married in this month.
~ Out And About ~
On this seventh of this month, my husband and I celebrated our first anniversary! It was so much fun to think about the first year and how much we've grown closer together. We had a really fun day! My husband was able to take off work and we went ice skating. Then we had a picnic in our front yard, and finished the day by going to dinner at a fancy steak restaurant. I surprised him with a scrapbook that featured pages from our first meeting, all the way to our wedding. My next project is to do the honeymoon scrapbook. 😊
~ In The Home ~
Well, the reason why the "out and about" section was small and only about our anniversary, is because we moved!! It was very unexpected and we are so blessed that it all worked out how it did. Thanks be to God and St. Joseph! We found a house that is close to my parents and my husband's work. It has a huge front porch and 2 and 1/4 acres! We are surrounded by woods, a dream come true! This month has been full of cleaning, organizing, and preparing to do some homesteading projects we've been dreaming about! It was sad to leave our first little house, the house that my husband lived in while we were courting, but it went to a good family. And we are able to wake up every morning to a beautiful view outside the window.
~ Kitchen Happenings ~
Remember when I made that meal in the last homemaking journal? my husband said it was one of the best ever? Well this month I made something that he said was the best things I've made in our marriage! Haha what a compliment! Its similar to the steak and shishito stir fry, and I did use the shishito peppers because we had so many, but the original recipe calls for sugar snap peas. The new favorite is Spicy Korean Venison, linked here! I served it over rice. The only thing I would change is to make more sauce!
~ Gifts From God ~
One of the gifts I have been extremely grateful for, is my vocation of marriage. Of all the joy it has to offer, but especially that I can stay home during the day. I think about all the single years of working late, being exhausted, and not having time to do anything creative. Now I see that it is such a blessing to be home. I was able to volunteer at a local convent, which I was never able to do when I worked. I can cook and bake during the day. I had time to make my anniversary scrapbook, I packed up all our moving boxes and unpacked them all. It's just been such. a. blessing. I hope to give God back some extra time in prayer for this gift.
~ On The Bookshelf ~
Well, I wish I could say I was deep in the middle of a book, but honestly I've been slacking since we moved. I have started Interior Castle by Terisa of Avila and so far it’s good, but admittedly a bit hard to understand. I will most likely move it to my “spiritual reading” for prayer and adoration, then start another book that’s a little lighter.
Now it’s time to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and prepare for what is my favorite time of year: November-January; a ton of beautiful feast days, holidays, cool weather (which unfortunately becomes cold weather) and lots of family time. ❤️
