The Housewife Journal ~ October ~

  ~ October 2025 ~

I love the month of October! It's my wedding month, the month of the Holy Rosary, and it's when the weather here starts really feeling like Fall! I have noticed that it always goes by quickly, but I guess that means we have lots of fun in October!

~ Out And About ~

Our biggest outing this month was going to Auburn for a football game! I'm actually not an Auburn fan (my family cheers for Ohio State) and I could easily live my life without football season, but my husband is a big fan so I must strive to be a supportive wife in this area! We went for most of the day, walking around campus, stopping at a tailgate, and finally going up to our seats for the night game. When I say up, I mean UP. To the highest spots in the stadium I believe. It was actually pretty fun though, because we could see everything on the field. My favorite part was seeing the band and their marching formations! Those are the things you don't see when you watch on TV.

Overall, I think both my husband and I agree, it won't be something we do often. While watching the game and getting the whole stadium experience is cool, what's more fun, and less expensive (at least to me) is having the family, friends, and delicious football food, all in the comfort of one's home.

~ In The Home ~

So, we live in a totally new house!! I wish I had a good before and after photo because unless you've seen what the house was before, it's hard to fully appreciate the new look. We started by painting the living room and the kitchen in the color Swiss Coffee! It's a warm, cozy white that really makes the whole house brighter, which is important for us because our house is naturally very dark. Jonathan also switched all the light switches and covers to white. Before, they were that dull yellowy tinted color. That made a huge difference!
We've been on Facebook Marketplace a lot too! Some of our finds include: a living room rug, couches, a floor lamp, end tables and a free coffee table! We've also managed to sell quite a few things on Marketplace too! It's nice to know that things are being reused and we are buying from someone local, rather than Amazon and all their China-made furniture. Although I will say, we did use Amazon for curtains!
It's been a busy month in the home for sure, but now that we've had a refresh, I'm ready to get back into hosting friends this Fall!

~ Kitchen Happenings ~

With our house being a disaster zone from all the painting and electrical work, I feel like I haven't done much cooking. We've eaten a lot of meals that I froze, and we've done lots of reheating leftovers, which has kept our grocery bill down to where I want it! Does anyone else struggle to stay on the grocery budget?? Maybe my goals are too lofty and I need to accept that we have to spend a little more on food in, so we can avoid eating out. I don't know! But this month we did excellent. So before I do the first shopping trip of November, I am going to do an assessment and see what exactly I did and how I can pull it off again.

I've also been revisiting Fit Frugal Mom on YouTube with all her grocery shopping hacks! She has helped me immensely with saving money on food!!

Again, now that the house work is done, I'm ready to start experimenting more in the kitchen, especially with sourdough! One of my goals is to prefect my artisan loaf and make some pretty designs on the top for the holidays! Jonathan has also been wanting the cinnamon raisin bread, so I know I'll do that as well!

Things I'm Grateful For ~

This month, we had to put down our sweet little Chester boy. It was really sad and hard, because he was only two years old. Both Jonathan and I miss him very much. But I am so grateful for having almost two years with the little guy. He brought me lots of comfort and joy. He was by far, the best cat I've ever owned so far! Here are some of my favorite Chester moments, just for my own enjoyment💕

~ On The Bookshelf ~

Still trying to finish The Secret Diary of Elizabeth Leseur! It's so good. And honestly I think it's better read little by little. Each entry re-inspires me to be more self sacrificing and deeper in prayer.
I want to finish it soon because I just ordered another book called Holy Silence. I've heard wonderful things about it from my mom and I know as soon as it comes in, I'll drop all other books to read it!

~ Other Random Things Worth Mentioning ~

This year we helped my mom with our annual All Hallows' Eve Party by hosting it at our house! It was probably our biggest motivation for getting our house fully furnished and decorated.
Sometimes when we host big gatherings, it's hard to visit with all the guests and find time to sit down to eat. This party was not like that at all! It was laid back and relaxing! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we're looking forward to hosting our next party soon!

And that's October! I'm so excited the Fall weather is here to stay and now, we begin the holiday planning!! Thanksgiving is coming quick! Talk to you in November!
