A Little Spring Update
Happy Easter!
(and happy feast of the Ascension while we're at it!)
After yet another blogging hiatus, I am back! April was so busy that I never got around to the housewife journal and now it seems May is equally busy. I wanted to offer just a small Spring update to share some photos and get back into the habit of writing!
Easter
Here are my Easter baskets from Holy Saturday. I found these Peony-Tulip hybrid flowers at Trader Joe's. I wanted regular tulips so I was not expecting such a big, open bloom. But they were beautiful!! Next time I'll probably put something less droopy in the basket. I was able to give away my second basket on Holy Saturday which was a special opportunity for me. Jonathan and I had to kill some time before meeting them, so we ended up going to a local museum and the Asian market. It was a fun, unexpected date!
Easter was a beautiful day spent with family and now we are celebrating until Pentecost!
The Garden
I guess now it's time to confess...All the seedlings that I had started inside, died. I had to completely start over. I decided that it made more sense to just wait and plant directly into the ground after the last frost, so I did. Everything is now doing great! It's a little late in the season, I was honestly hoping to have some flowers by May, but what matters is that everything is growing!
I actually did happen to get one bud! Here is what it looks like today. It could bloom any day now!
Besides the Marigolds, I also planted Zinnas, Sweet Williams, Sunflowers, Snapdragons, Columbines, Cosmos, and a wildflower packet in one corner of the garden.
I'm not sure if they've all come up yet, but I know the Marigolds, Sunflowers, and Zinnas are thriving.
The hummingbirds are back!! My mom gifted me this new feeder that attaches to the window and honestly I was surprised at how fast they found it and were comfortable with it.
It's been really fun watching them come up so close to the house! The most I've seen at once is three.
My goal is to add a fun bird feeder or bath to the yard each year with my Christmas or birthday money. Bird watching is so relaxing.
The blueberries are also starting to come out! We cut the bushes back significantly in the Winter so we didn't know how many we would get. They seem to be doing very well.
We also added four new bushes of our own and a couple of my brother in-law's, since we found a spot in the yard that they like.
I think that's all for now! Spring is sadly almost over, but with the end of Spring comes the beginning of Summer, which means even more fun in the garden and in the home!
See you in the May Housewife Journal!
Gina💕
